St. Andrews Heights is named after the golf course which once occupied the top of the hill where we are located. That golf course was named after the more famous one in Scotland. Our golf course closed in 1945 and the construction of the subdivision began in 1953.

Q. Why doesn't the name "St. Andrews" have an apostrophe?
A. That's a good question! Historically Scottish place names didn't include punctuation because they were founded before punctuation was invented.

Q. That explains the apostrophe, but what about the period?
A. That's a historical accident. There was a lot of debate in the community about the punctuation, and while that was going on the sign for the community hall had to be ordered. Somebody made an executive decision to include the period and it has remained ever since!
