|| = || __ HAPPY DECEMBER!
The legislature has been sitting for a month now, and much has happened. With a new party leader, my position within the Alberta NDP caucus has changed a bit. I have recently been appointed as the Chair of the Future of Healthcare on the Leaders Advisory Team. I’m thrilled about this new role as it allows me to build a team of stakeholders interested in diving into the work of how we can improve our healthcare system should we form a government in 2027.
I’m currently waiting for my bill, The Organ and Tissue Donor Information Agreement Act, to be brought forward for a reading.This bill would allow Albertans to opt in to receive information about Organ and Tissue donation right on their income tax forms.
The UCP Government has introduced several bills to the legislature so far this session, and the one thing that sticks out to me most is that they simply aren’t focusing on the things that I hear from my constituents every day. Whenever I’m at the doors, I hear three things over and over again: Affordability, Healthcare and Housing. Regrettably, none of these things have been discussed much by the government this fall in the legislature. The UCP are not backing off on stealing your CPP, raising your auto insurance rates by 15% over the next two years, changing sex-education to be opt-in as opposed to the current working opt-in system (lack of sex education increases teen pregnancy and STI rates), and they are further targeting already vulnerable gender-diverse youth.
I was happy to attend the St. Andrew’s Heights AGM for the second time since becoming an MLA, and also to attend the Neighbour Day BBQ! I’m looking forward to the events that St. Andrew’s puts on next year!
