|| = || __ NEIGHBOUR DAY BBQ

Despite the threat of rain, we are still on for tomorrow (Saturday).

It’s probably best to come closer to 4pm than 7pm as the rain only gets worse later. We have room for some to be indoors but we will also have tables outside. So, dress warm. And bring a lawn chair if you can.

Remember cash for the cold alcoholic drinks. The price for the drinks is revised to $2.50. Please bring small bills (or exact amounts) to make giving change easier. Please - no big bills.

We have live music by… the Noisey Neighbour!!! This Noisey Neighbour is a lot more fun than you might guess!! :)

See you tomorrow!

|| = || __ NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

A number of our community members have expressed interest in creating a team that will drive around the community watching for suspicious people doing suspicious things - during evening and weekend hours.

These helpers are not expected to approach anyone directly - only to report (and be prepared to provide information to police).

We expect to have a short discussion about this at the AGM on June 24th (7pm). Please plan to attend and give your input. If you’d like to become involved, that would also be very much appreciated. As well, we’re looking for someone who might be interested in organizing this.

NOTE ALSO …

There has been a neighbour racing around the community at high speeds in his vehicle. This has been confirmed with video evidence from a witness.

We ask everybody to remember there are kids playing in the school yard (and their home yards). They might be riding bikes or walking next door. They don’t know they need to watch for speeders. Kindly slow down … so children and elders and pets (and everybody) stays safe.

Remember - if someone you loved was badly hurt or killed, it would break your heart. Drive like you never want anyone to experience that.

|| = || __ FIRE BAN REMINDER

We know you know. But please remember …

Due to the on-going water main break, and as a precautionary measure to help prevent any unnecessary fires, the City of Calgary has implemented a city-wide fire ban.

The fire ban includes all yards and all City parks.

Under the fire ban, the following are prohibited:

  • Open fires

  • Fire pits

  • Gas or propane fire pits

  • Outdoor chimeneas

  • Recreational solid fuel barbecues and stoves (charcoal briquettes or wood)

  • Tiki torches

  • Patio heaters (propane, catalytic or infrared/radiant)

  • Ceremonial events with an approved CFD permit - cancelled

  • All fireworks permits cancelled

  • Indoor open-air flame fires with an approved CFD permit – cancelled

  • All ‘hot works’ requiring a fire safety plan are prohibited.

The following are currently allowed:

  • Gas or propane stoves and barbeques that are CSA approved or ULC certified for cooking purposes.

  • Approved commercial solid fuel cooking appliances. (e.g. BBQ and Pizza establishments/vendors)

Hot works

All ‘hot works’ requiring a fire safety plan are prohibited. Hot works involve open flames or producing heat or sparks, including but not limited to, cutting, welding, soldering, brazing, grinding, adhesive bonding, roofing operations, thermal spraying and thawing pipes.

All routine sprinkler maintenance is cancelled until further notice.

If the work is an emergency that affects life or health, please email FireLegal@calgary.ca for further direction.

The fire ban will be in effect until further notice, when water supply issues are no longer deemed a risk to health and safety.

For updates, please check the
City of Calgary website on a regular basis.

|| = || __ FEEDING WILDLIFE

One of our neighbours recently asked all of us to be careful about feeding wildlife. This neighbour was finding bones and other bits of (food) garbage in her yard.

Another neighbour has noted this is likely often due to overfilling of bins. This makes it easier and more tempting for birds and animals to try to get access. It also makes it more likely some of this stuff won’t make it into the garbage truck on pickup day. It’s then in the alley.

Thank you, kind neighbours, for all of your consideration of other neighbours.

If you are not already on our email list (or Facebook page), please join and encourage neighbours to join as well. It's an easy way to stay up-to-date with all that's going on in and around the 'hood.
