Due to the on-going water main break, and as a precautionary measure to help prevent any unnecessary fires, the City of Calgary has implemented a city-wide fire ban.
The fire ban includes all yards and all City parks.
Under the fire ban, the following are prohibited:
Open fires
Fire pits
Gas or propane fire pits
Outdoor chimeneas
Recreational solid fuel barbecues and stoves (charcoal briquettes or wood)
Tiki torches
Patio heaters (propane, catalytic or infrared/radiant)
Ceremonial events with an approved CFD permit - cancelled
All fireworks permits cancelled
Indoor open-air flame fires with an approved CFD permit – cancelled
All ‘hot works’ requiring a fire safety plan are prohibited.
The following are currently allowed:
Hot works
All ‘hot works’ requiring a fire safety plan are prohibited. Hot works involve open flames or producing heat or sparks, including but not limited to, cutting, welding, soldering, brazing, grinding, adhesive bonding, roofing operations, thermal spraying and thawing pipes.
All routine sprinkler maintenance is cancelled until further notice.
If the work is an emergency that affects life or health, please email FireLegal@calgary.ca for further direction.
The fire ban will be in effect until further notice, when water supply issues are no longer deemed a risk to health and safety.
