|| = || __ DOG SAFETY ON THE HILL

Spring is a time when many people are eager to get out and enjoy walking along the top of the hill along Toronto Crescent. Dogs are even more excited! Spring is a good time to remind people of best practices for dog safety and consideration of others.

The narrow pathway along Toonto Crescent at the top of the hill is an on-leash area. The area below the crest of the hill is an off-leash area. These rules are posted on the signs along the street indicating on-leash and off-leash areas. There is one such sign located on the hill just west of the corner of Toronto Crescent and Kingston Street. The sign clearly indicates that as you go down the hill, you are entering an off-leash area, and that as you come up the hill to walk along Toronto Crescent, you are leaving the off-leash area and entering the on-leash area. There is a similar sign along the top of the hill in the 2900

block of Toronto Crescent, indicating that the pathway along Toronto Crescent is an on-leash area.

Many dogs are easily distracted by something across the street, and crossing it when off-leash is dangerous for the dog and for others. So, in addition to the city by-law requirement to heed signage, leashing dogs along Toronto Crescent makes sense for dogs’ safety, for the safety of vehicles on the street, and for the safety of pedestrians on the sidewalk across the street. It also prevents dogs from entering the yards of your neighbors who live along Toronto Crescent.

Humans do enjoy the view along Toronto Crescent! But dogs don’t really care about the view, they just love their humans and want to be with them. So, let them run free below the crest of the hill, and leash them along the top.

Thank you for your understanding.

If you are not already on our email list (or Facebook page), please join and encourage neighbours to join as well. It's an easy way to stay up-to-date with all that's going on in and around the 'hood.
