|| = || __ VISITOR PARKING __
UPDATE AS SHARED BY TERRY WONG’S OFFICE:
We spoke with the manager from Calgary Parking and he said:
“The permit limit for RPP holders continues to be 2 visitor parking permits (for ground-oriented), and this has not changed with the introduction of permit fees. Each permit provides one visitor parking session at a time. Any existing permits that were to expire after May of this past year, including visitor permits, were extended to Feb 5/24. There had previously been an option in the system to activate two sessions via one permit but that option is no longer available due to the system changes. If a resident wishes to have a second visitor permit so they can have two active sessions, and they do not already have two visitor permits, they will need to apply for the second visitor permit.”
He said that the system used to allow for 2 sessions under 1 Visitor permit but is now 1 session: 1 permit, so many people only have 1 permit and are required to purchase the second permit for the second session. This was not communicated to our office nor to those impacted by the system change – as having 2 sessions per 1 permit would be easily interpreted as owning 2 permits. I have asked him what can be done to rectify this situation and I have not yet heard a response back. I will continue to push for some sort of solution especially prior to Christmas and I hope I get a response in time.
While that is definitely not the ideal response, there is 2 other passes I think would be beneficial for the community in regards for parking for guests and the holidays in the case that there is not anything provided in time.
For people with out-of-town visitors, they can apply for the Temporary Permit.
You can apply for a Temporary Permit if your address is eligible and you have out-of-town guests staying with you. The permit will usually be valid for 14 days.
A letter indicating the dates of the visit (can just be a written note)
A copy of the visitor’s vehicle registration showing the out-of-town address
One of the following documents showing the applicant's name and current address where the permit is required within the RPZ:
A valid lease agreement (of at least six months in duration)
Telephone bill (within the last two months)
Utility/cable bill (within the last two months)
Further info (and updates as they become available) can be found at: Calgary Parking
For people having large gatherings or Christmas events; they can request enforcement relaxations for the date and time of the event by Calling 311. It is Important to note that a minimum of 72 business hours’ notice is required.
I will continue to work on this and will let you know if anything changes.
Thanks,
Ben Sherren
