Hi Neighbours!
This time of year is always tough for me. It’s when the trees are starting to look beautiful, but it’s also when crappy golfers (like me) lose so many golf balls in the fallen leaves!
We had our monthly meeting Monday night and I’d like to share the key points with you. But before that, a couple of announcements from the community:
Congratulations to Serghei Cicala and his wife Jenny. They’ve recently moved into the neighbourhood and now they (mostly his wife) just added to the SAH population! Artur Gheorghe Cicala was born last Monday. Serghei and I are friends, and we play hockey together on Monday night’s – and yes, Serghei reluctantly had to skip the game last Monday!!
Also, shout out to our board’s new secretary, Clarence Kort. We’ve recently been informed that he has just been presented with a Sport Calgary Outstanding Volunteer award for his commitment to the Calgary Sport Club Foothills Wanderers Orienteering group. Congrats Clarence!
As mentioned, we had our monthly board meeting on Monday night. Besides all the boring administrative and financial stuff:
We, along with our City of Calgary liaison, discussed:
the grants available to provide maintenance on the courts
the grants available to provide funding for new or upgraded equipment for the rink
the grants available to provide support for community social events. This would mean things like special interest groups might get funding for their events. If you’ve been thinking about something like this and want to take advantage of these grants, the board can *help* you. We won’t do it for you, but we can guide you. Talk to your favourite board member to get started.
the timing of applying and (if we’re successful) the funding – hint – it doesn’t happen quickly, but we will be starting right away.
We talked again about getting our councillor (Terry Wong) out for a town hall:
to provide an understanding of the parking situation
to discuss the Housing Strategy and how it may impact our community
we also talked about how to ensure that the Town Hall doesn’t turn into an adversarial session where everyone is just yelling about things. He’s heard all the complaints.
we’re hoping this can happen before December
We talked about what’s happening to our parking zones in our community – not related to the RPP (Residential Parking Permit program). Some of you may have noticed that there have been signs put up indicating 2hr Parking from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Mon to Fri (which also implies that outside parking beyond those restricted times is allowed). This was the result of a group of community members asking the City to review the situation and to perhaps start allowing for this parking to happen. After the City concluded their review, they decided to make this change. When the change was announced, several community members felt this wasn’t needed or wanted. Somewhere in the middle is where we’re going to end up, but our responsibility now is keep working with the City while they assess the situation. We’ll keep you updated as best we can.
That pretty much sums up our meeting. If you’ve got any questions or concerns, reach out to the board and we can talk about it.
See you around the neighbourhood!
