Another neighbour has shared their ‘adventures’ with a mother bobcat (after reading the recent eNews about others having trouble).
They had one under their deck for over a week. They had to hire someone to help get rid of her. They tried to chase her away with animal urine, loud noises, and more — and closed off holes they thought were allowing her in. Even so she still got in.
They set up cameras to see what she did at night. She brought, at different times, two squirrels and two rabbits.
After they made access to her den impossible, the neighbours think she moved to Hamilton Street. They still have to take part of deck apart to get the carcasses out from underneath. Likely they aren’t in a hurry since they don’t want to invite her back. The flies are very bad.
They could not get help from Fish and Wildlife or the city. They were also told that if they could get permission to trap them, it would cost $800 or more.
Their recommendation to other neighbours is this: Be prepared for a hassle. Our suggestion: Do your best to make the real estate unappealing before they even get any ideas.
