|| = || _ FROM THE NEW PRESIDENT
Hello St Andrews Heights Neighbours!
Thanks to everyone who came out to both our AGM and our Community Centre Grand Opening BBQ the day before! The wind and the brief shower were getting me a little nervous while helping setup on Sunday, but as it turned out, we had a great community day!
At the AGM, we (Liz) presented the board member reports for the previous year then we had our annual elections to the board for the upcoming year. I am back as part of this newly elected board, but my role has changed. I’m now working as President of the SAHCA.
The community members elected to the board at the AGM held last week are as follows:
We’d like to thank Chris Ogston for the efforts he put into the role of VP Residential last year. We’d also like to thank Shannon Blakely for all her work as our president for the past couple of years and especially the planning and execution of our Community Hall Renovation! These two have put a lot of time and work into our community and it has been greatly appreciated!
For this upcoming year, I’m hoping we can put some focus on initiatives that can bring more “community” to our community. We’re just now in the “talking about it” phase but stay tuned and please feel free to provide your thoughts on this.
Also, we’ve got a great new community hall that (since COVID) is underutilized. If you’ve got an event you’re thinking about hosting, consider our hall – you do know that community members get a big discount on hall rentals, right? And if it’s an event the whole community is invited to, we might be able to provide support though partial funding or helping find volunteers. Again, feel free to reach out to your favourite board member to discuss.
Another thing – We had our MLA (Luanne Metz) and our Ward 7 Councillor (Terry Wong) attend our AGM and say a few words to introduce themselves to the community. As Luanne Metz is new to her role and is just getting settled in, our time with her was truly just introductory. Terry Wong, on the other hand, held a lively and transparent discussion which we had to cut short (to start eating and drinking!). I did speak to Terry afterwards and he did tell me that he could make some time available for a “town hall” type of discussion soon and I plan to take him up on that offer. Let’s keep in mind, that even though we’ll be discussing things that may be concerning to us, these events need to be conducted in a respectful manner and we’re not holding them to “run him out of town.”
One last thing that I’d just like to remind everyone of is that the board meets on the 4th Monday of each month (excluding July and December) and anyone who wants to attend (to bring up community concerns or even just listen to what we’re dealing with) is more than welcome.
Thanks
Adev

|| = || _ HELP A NEIGHBOUR
One of our neighbours in St Andrews Heights is looking for a summer babysitter to help out with their 5-month old baby.
Specifically they are looking for daytime care during the week over July and August, with some occasional evenings and weekends. Mom will be home but working. After the summer it will be babysitting for evenings / weekends ongoing.
If you are interested, send a message to the newsletter with your name and contact info. We will then forward it to Mom who will choose from those that apply.
Please also indicate whether you would like to be added to our Babysitter List (names we will share whenever someone requests the current list of babysitters).
