|| = || __ FOOTHILLS MEDICAL CENTRE UPDATE
The following news is shared by the Foothills Medical Centre in anticipation of large overnight deliveries during the last few days of the month. These deliveries are related to the power plant upgrade, and may cause noise and disruption for nearby residents. Also watch for further updates in case they need to make changes to their plans. If they alert us, we will alert you.
Regarding heavy equipment delivery to the FMC Power Plant
The details relating to two large-load deliveries of equipment to the FMC Power Plant as part of the expansion project are not completely finalized. We are though now able to provide some information regarding timeline, access to the site, and possible impact.
Provisional dates/times of Monday August 29th at 3am and Wednesday, August 31st at 3am have been set for the delivery of two oversize loads. Each load will be one new boiler for the Power Plant. These dates remain provisional and there is a chance they will change either because of requirements of the haulage team or at the direction of the City of Calgary. At this point any changes in timeline would see the dates put back rather than moved forward.
The City of Calgary will require us to deliver these loads overnight, avoiding weekends, and it has been identified that the West Entrance next to McCaig Tower will be used to enter the FMC Site with 24th Ave NW and then West Campus Boulevard representing the latter stages of the route overall.
Weekdays between Monday and Thursday inclusive that week will be associated with onsite movement and crane supported placement of the equipment, and will involve closure of Hospital Drive South for the duration of this work other than some specific windows of time in which loading dock deliveries will proceed.
Unfortunately we can expect noise impact during this time (including noise overnight on the two delivery nights) and the construction team will be working with the City of Calgary on the appropriate permits.
We are hoping to finalize the details of the plan outlined above shortly and will be able to provide more information to ACWG at that time. Alberta Infrastructure is also considering other appropriate communication strategies liaising with a communication consult already working on this project.
Please let me know if you would additionally like us to organize a focused meeting of the ACWG ahead of this work, or if you would like to discuss any aspect individually please just reach out to me directly.
Many thanks for your patience as we complete this important but impactful work and we will be in touch soon.
